They are sort of slanted, true, but they certainly aren't 'H' like the Subaru 'boxer' engines. I know the EJ engines pretty well. Done a number of head gasket jobs on them and done a few bottom end...

The 4EAT Subaru transmission is very reliable. I'm only on my second. Regarding the CVT, it's hit or miss. I think the tech isn't quite there yet.
