Photos is an organisational nightmare.

Roll-over preview and Events in iPhoto enabled me to sort 36,000 photos into individual narratives which were quickly and easily accessible.

Thanks Steve, that's exactly what I needed - these were unchecked for some reason, meaning I switched back to the app but not the Space all its windows were in.
