This thing looks amazing. Amazing enough to make me seriously putting-up with Windows. Looks like I'd have to jump on the Adobe monthly tithe, though.

I think Apple's answer is "iPad Pro".

My thinking is that that thing looks great, but the market must be very limited at the price they're charging for it.

I don't think the price is all that out-of-line, really. Of course, I've not even seen an IP Pro, so I have no comparison of the screens, response, etc. I have played with the mobile versions of Adobe products on my IP Air and...no thanks. That's the big ace-in-the-hole for this, to me. It runs for-real pro software.

Not that I can afford either this of the IP Pro right now, LOL.

Microsoft appear to be rushing Apples goalmouth while at the same time Apples' goalie has popped of for a quick fag break.

Take the Pro market for granted for too long and the pro market will find a new supplier of decent kit.

There is tons of great creative, pro-level software that isn't made by Adobe.

I think Apple have just clarified that they are in complete opposition to Microsoft's approach. Apple's way will take longer, but in contrast, it will be successful.

Or not. We'll see. If the Surface Studio and Microsoft vision don't win out then it may well be innovation from elsewhere although it seems MS have rediscovered the hunger that has been missing for a long time. Apple seem so very very full of cake and pie at the moment.

I very much like that the companies take two very different approaches to reach the same goal: pervasive touch input on all mainstream computing devices. For certain use cases the Surface Studio is great: if an iPad Pro/Surface Pro is too small, but you need a touch- and pen-friendly canvas, it really sounds like a great solution. On the other hand, the idea isn't new, there have been Cintiqs available that did the same thing (including those which include a computer). Of course, the execution wasn't as slick, and the integration nowhere near as good (Wacom isn't making their own OS after all), but for a small, specialized niche it seems like the scratch for the itch.

I don't know whether this translates to mass market success, though. I am very skeptical that adding touch to notebooks and notebook-first devices is something the main stream clamors for.

Wacom should be worried. Those Cintiq's still aren't high PPI and still have poor color gamut and viewing angles. Even my $500 Dell monitor at work is better.

Exactly. Even the iPad Pro is a serious competitor in more ways than one: there is an app out there that allows you to use it as a Cintiq for another Mac.
