My car was broken into and my PB was stolen, I have registered again because I feel so stupid.
I reported to the police and this officer told me to post it on a police database, I have attached a news story. This is a great idea.

This has been discussed in the past, but it would be great to have a worldwide database of stolen computers by serial number. Many people think Apple should set it up for Macs, but I think it would be better for such things to be universal and handle every company's products.

I'm sorry your car was broken into and you lost your PowerBook, and I hope that you'll have good luck in getting it back. Does your car insurance cover the contents in a break in?

Another option, which I'm considering for my new Macbook, is LoJack for Laptops, which is just what it sounds like. They finally released a Mac client in July, though there are some privacy questions associated with them (such as, just how much can they see on your hard drive, and just how easily is the software removed). Essentially, the lojack software checks into a central server whenever the laptop connects to the Internet, so the computer can be tracked if it is ever stolen. Perhaps someone else on here has used it?
