I live in Japan. I am operating OSX on a 600 ibook. I have given my old ibook (original vers, with 160 megs of ram) to a Japanese friend. It currently has the English version of 9.04. As he is new to computers and not very fluent in English, he went out and bought the Japanese language version of 9.2. When we tried to install it, the we got a dialogue box telling us that we could not upgrade from 9.04 ENG to 9.2 JAP. I tried to boot from the CDROM and do a clean install, but I got the same message. HELP! Does anyone know how I can accomplish this...?

a link for this enable kit was posted in an older thread on this topic. don't know how well (or even If) it works. give it a shot.

Well first the 9.04 system can not be directly upgraded to 9.2
If the English system is installed then the system can not be upgraded to Japanese.
The system must be reinstalled fresh.
I think your problem lies in the fact you already have OS X on the PB because I think I heard if you are running OSX can't put OS 9 back on easily.
So in this if you keep on OSX you have to erase 9(English) & put on 9(Japanese) which seems hard or impossible.

Changing systems from English to Japanese is quite fustrating. I've been using both for quite some time now.
