Why not just use iTunes to do? I've made a few songs into ringtones then bluetooth them to my phone. Painless, free and quick.

I didn't think you could crop audio in itunes. This tool allows you to crop at certain sec intervals, opens multiple formats and it looks like it even sends it to phone for you. This tool looks good but it needs a bit more polish.

I must be stoopid or something. After setting a stopping point, the only option to convert to is aac. I can't use this as a ringtone on my SE s710a phone.

cool, i'm new to programming for Mac so I had no idea iTunes could do that. This app is only a start. I suppose a benefit is having it sent to phone after you're done or if you need different ringtone formats (mainly Sprint and Verizon users). I still need more people testing it. Seems there are many different iTunes installations out there.

From an edited hint a long time ago at macosxhints. I've done it and it works flawless. If you have bluetooth, you can send the file via bluetooth then save it on the phone. Once it has been saved, you can make it a ringtone.

First, in iTunes you need to go to Prefs, then Import, then change your import settings to mp3. Then, find the song you want, and go through the song to figure out which part you want to be the ringtone (IE: 00:30.00 to 00:42.00) and then Command-I to get info on the song

Under the Options tab in the Get Info menu, check both start and stop time and enter the start and stop times for the ringtone section (IE: Start time 00:30.00 End Time 00:42.00).

You may want to play it once to make sure it's well cropped. Then, just select the song in your library and go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3. It will automatically convert ONLY the portion of the song that you selected to a new, cropped MP3 file, which can then be dragged onto the desktop and used.
My Nokia 6630 handles AAC files as well so you can leave it as as AAC or convert it to AAC > Podcast quality to save even more space. I've done songs from the iTMS as well with no problems.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Quicktime Player can also crop and convert formats. But you have to have Quicktime Pro.

I use Audacity to generate MP3 ringtones. It's freeware, and you actually SEE what you're doing. Start and end points can then be set very exactly, fade-in and fade-out functionality is of help, eventually. If the result is low in level, you can amplify it without running into the risk of clipping/distortion, but get a nice loud ringtone.
Then, for export into MP3 you can set the bitrate comfortably in the prefs. BTW, I found 96 a good compromise re. file size and sound quality.

Have fun,
T.

Ok forgive my ignorance, but as a Verizon customer, when I make my ringtone and then send it to my phone number, what happens next? Does it arrive as an attachment to a text message or what exactly? Is there a data charge? If someone clues me into this I'll definitely checkout the app.

When in doubt just download midi files of old video games and impress your friends with a Zelda or Super Mario Brothers ring tone.
