I've had my Sawtooth for 7 1/2 years now, heck a little bit longer. When I think back along Apple's product lines, I can't think of a more versatile machine. Obviously there are faster machines, better technologies, but few products have actually lasted so long for so many people. It can't do everything, but I'm running 10.4.10 with no problems...

Is there a powerbook like this? One made 5-7 years ago that's still kicking, and running well for lots of people?

I wouldn't go that far back! The Pismo was a better choice it has firewire & usb native.

You can get a great deal on a G4 PB 15. They will be much snappier than a G3.

I've been using my 12" powerbook for over 4 and a half years now. I'm just now starting to look at a possible upgrade. If the macbook only had a video card...

I have used a Pismo for almost seven years practically on a daily basis.

In the last months some strange L2-cache issue came up and I assume the frequent rebootings finally killed my hard disc.

Apart from this I had never have issues. But no USB 2.0 was quite annoying, though. I am looking forward to a new computer, now. I will give the Pismo a second try with a new HD and freshly installed OS (maybe it wasn't a hardware issue at all).
