I just got a Mac mini that I would like to connect to my Mac Pro. Primarily, I want to share the Pro's internet connection (which is connected directly to Airport via ethernet - not sure if that matters) and stream some videos and share photos from the Mac Pro to the Mac mini. The mini will likely be sitting on top of the Pro, or at least very nearby.
So what are my options? Should I just use an ethernet cable to connect the mini to the Pro's second ethernet port? Or, would a firewire connection be faster?
Thanks in advance.

Ethernet is faster and more standard. You could even cable it to the Airport (if it's gigabit) to avoid the need for network sharing on the Mac Pro (which kinda sorta works usually but is pretty warty). Gigabit ethernet is faster than the mini's hard drive.

I've upgraded the mini's drive already to 7200RPM - not sure if that matters. I'll stick with ethernet directly plugged into the Pro since my Airport is in the basement and the computers are on the main floor. Thanks for the info!

"Of course"?
1000 Mbit is faster than 800 Mbit, but Ethernet has much higher overhead, IIRC.

In real-world testing I have always found Gigabit to be faster than FW.
Under decent conditions, there's nowhere close to 200 MBps more overhead on Gigabit for the two to start becoming comparable.
Even on this really old Cisco router I'm connected to right now I regularly see 96 MB/s over Gigabit between two basically identical MPs. With a direct FW800 connection using a very decent cable I have never seen anything better than just short of 80MB/s. On the MPs we have raided HDDs (and SSDs). OTOH with two MBPs it's actually the 2.5" SATA drives that are the real limitation, not the Gigabit network between.
