Joss Whedon officially stated at ComiCon 2008 that there may be a Big Damn Sequel if the DVD sales for the Collector's Edition work out well.

Phase one is now in effect for all Browncoats: Pre-order as many copies as you can of the Serenity Collector's Edition. Buy them for yourself, as gifts for your friends, donations to your library, just buy them!

We've done it before and we can do it again! It's time for the Big Damn Sequel!!!

Browncoats unite!

I would like to see a sequel. Any indication of when it might be if they get the go ahead?

Shiny! I'm going to order the DVD right away. Let me point out that you can get it here with free shipping for just a little more than where olePigeon linked to. With his link, you have to go over $25 to get free shipping.

My friend has gotten me into watching Firefly...A+ stuff. It's a shame that Fox cancelled it.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

Not especially soon, but sooner than if it isn't given the go-ahead. (I think what he actually said was something like, "Well, Summer's on the Terminator show, Adam's got his own show, Jewel's got hers, Morena's got hers — I couldn't ask everybody to put their careers on hold for it, so scheduling will probably take a little while.")

From the sound of it, a metric ton of special features. According to Amazon:
-Extended Scenes (6:45)
-Take A Walk on Serenity (4:00) Cast and Crew take us on a special tour of the Serenity space ship
-A Filmmaker's Journey (19:49) Take A Journey with Joss Whedon from script to the big screen
-The Green Clan (3:03) An expose on Cinematographer Jack Green and his team
-Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity (21:41) Hosted by Adam Baldwin, an in-depth look at the film that was resurrected from a cancelled television show, as well as its supportive culture.
-Session 416 (7:52) These internet pieces document a portion of River's participation in a psychological study and her interactions with her therapist.
-Feature Commentary with Director Joss Whedon and Cast Members Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, and Ron Glass

There are a lot of 'ifs' in what Josh said - I'd love a sequel too, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ah yeah, I forgot about him... shame they ended him so prematurely, there was potential for an awesome backstory there.

That's the beauty of flashbacks! Joss can do a lot to fill in Book's story through flashbacks.

If we make enough noise about Book, maybe Fox will do a prequel spinoff... Not sure if that would be a good thing or not, but if Joss did it, it couldn't be too bad.

But Nathan Fillion's not doing anything!

(Drive, cancelled after four episodes?)

Drive was fun in a cheesy way.

Mine is pre-ordered. May just get one for the library while I'm at it. So glad to see they got proper artwork.

There was a time when I considered "browncoats" to be, frankly, nutters.

The I watched Serenity. I still thought they were nutters but I granted that it was a good movie. I planned to watch the TV show but never got around to it.

Finally managed to get around to watching the whole series and.. damn.. how wrong I was. I just couldn't believe how such a great show could get cancelled. Most of the crap of TV doesn't have more than 1 episode a season as good as Firefly's first and last. This coming from a vehement Buffy/Angel hater no less.

I have yet to find someone who doesn't get attached to it after watching the series. I was introduced to it by a friend, and two more friends have recently joined the Browncoat ranks. Pretty good for a cancelled show.

And yes, with our endless quotes we spew out at all occasions, we are a bit nutters.

Yeah, even my girlfriend digs the series and movie. She's not a Sci-Fi type person either. I'd love to see a sequel, but I'd love even more if they'd start the series back up. I wonder why FOX doesn't sell the rights if they don't want to produce it.

Yeah, Fox is the Andrea Yates of show nurturing. They almost yanked House, but the American Idol lead-in helped save it. I'm suprised that Bones (a show that I enjoy) has made if for a third season.

On topic, DVD is orderd.

Have you heard any rumblings from studios or networks looking to do either a series or another movie? Nobody wants the rights. Same reason Universal hasn't commissioned a Serenity sequel. The show may be high-quality and even apparently popular, but it underperforms commercially when it really counts. Firefly got low ratings, then the fans managed to persuade Universal to do a movie, then nobody went and saw it.

I haven't heard anything, but I would imagine those sorts of things get discussed behind closed doors and don't get published much. Anyway, from what I've been told (I wasn't paying attention at the time this happened) Firefly did poorly in the ratings partly because of the way FOX aired it. Something about airing the episodes out of order and/or during baseball season where it would get bumped for games and such. But I would imagine some cable network, like SciFi or something would take the risk at another season to see if the underground fan base would make it a success. But I would also think that there are a lot more obstacles in the way of such a thing.

I just want more episodes dammit! I just got done watching the season again last week and I always end it wanting to see a lot more. I have enjoyed catching up on Battlestar Galactica a lot because of the 3 seasons its been going for. Lots of goodness to enjoy.

I liked Drive -- it sucks that FOX killed it.

Yep, they aired the first regular episode (The Train Job) first, and then later aired the pilot episode. Not a great way to give the background story to the audience.

Train Job -

"Who's this Shepard, Doctor, and River character?"
"I dunno, I guess they're apart of the crew?"
"So... Mal and Zoe aren't married? Who's this Arnara character?!"

Serenity (Pilot) -

"Wait... I thought Shepard, Simon, and River were already apart of the crew. Why are they only now picking them up? Why is River in a box?!! GAH! I'm so confused!!!"

Since Wash is gone (*sniff*) they'll need someone to fill his obviously huge shoes. My vote is for Ted Raimi, aka Joxer the Mighty.

Oh, great, just when I thought they went away, the Browncoats are back.
I love me some Firefly/Serenity, but let it go people. There's no way in hell another movie is going to happen.

This seems like a good time to bring up the greatest show of all time, Cleopatra 2525. The only thing more laughable than the plot was the theme song.

Well, I remember I heard the name advertised well before the show, and since I'm into sci-fi, I'm thinking, "Hmmm... Cleopatra (of Egypt) brought back to life in the future... interesting concept."

Boy, was I mistaken.
