I change the text with setStringValue but no alas it doesn't change. Any ideas?

Is the object really the object you think it is? (ie, created correctly programatically, or connected correctly as an IBOutlet in the NIB).

Yes, I know this post has seemed beginnerish, but I really do have significant Cocoa experience. Really not sure what the hang up is here, was just wondering if anybody has ever had the same problem and what their resolution was.

Every time I've seen something like this (in my own or somebody else's code), it's been because of either a bad connection in a nib or a nib itself getting corrupted. That's definitely where I'd be inclined to look.
