While cruising through my HD, I came along and noticed that I have a preferences file called "Jessika Preferences" and it was a SimpleText document, and not a regular preferences file. Inside the file is the follwing text:

"jessika prefers to crush the life out of her husband and my best friend.
her selfish psychotic monsterous juvenile actions have permanently damaged him as well as emptying my faith
my admiration of justice remains, she's just forever in c-attle."

I am concerned I picked up a virus or trojan. Has anyone seen this before?

Yes I did, and it came up clean. Doesn't mean that I didn't catch a new virus, though.....

hmm I've found an *invisble* file called "Date Preferences" in there.
Part of the file reads: []"The Recreational Software Advisory Council rating service. Based on the work of Dr. Donald F. Roberts of Stanford University, who has studied the effects of media on children for nearly 20 years."[]
It goes on to list categories such as "Violence;Conflict

";Harmless conflict; some damage to objects", etc.
Wonder what the *HECK* that's all about?!!
Anyways, I locked the file to see what happens (figured that if I trashed it, it may just get replaced). Didn't find any "Jessika Preferences", but thanks for calling my attention to the possibility of strange prefs.

(don't know why, but couldn't post all this into my first post above)

"Date preferences" is created by Microsoft Internet Explorer.
I would simply trash "Jessika Preferences", I don't know this file and I don't have it.

Thanks Flurk,

But why would IE create such a strange file? And why would it be invisible? Any info would be appreciated.

IE has that "Ratings" panel in it. It allows you to select to block out certain websites based on content. It contains the same text that you described in the preference file.
