I'm in need of a new battery for my Titanium DVI PowerBook (A1012) but I don't really have $130 to spend on one. I've looked on eBay before, but there's just so much on there, and I don't want to get ripped off.

Would I be right to just avoid anything not from Apple? There appears to be a wealth of third party batteries, but considering all the money and work I just sunk into fixing up the PB, I don't want to risk it if others have had issues in the past with the third parties.

There are third party batteries that are better than Apple's (newer cell tech, higher capacity); they're in the same price range as Apple's.

And of course their are cheap knockoffs; you pay for what you get.

Cheap chinese battery = 30 seconds battery life.

You get what you pay for with laptop batteries.

Do a google for "laptop battery fire". Don't mess with cheap knockoffs on such a nice machine!
