hello--

today i tried playing a dvd for my mother (who is in the hospital), on my Ti550. everytime the movie had played for only 5 minutes, the screen froze, and i couldn't get the dvd to continue playing. (it was a new dvd movie that i had just purchased, no scratches or anything wrong with the dvd).

is there a problem with my titanium? i have had it for only two months, and today was the first day i tried playing a movie on it.

any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!!

What operating system are you running on the TiBook? What movie were you running?

i am using 9.2 (whatever is preloaded, definitely not OS 10, although i think that is also available if i choose to load it).

and, the movie i purchased was Crouching Lion, . . . (can't remember the whole title now as my brain is on overload, it was the one that won some academy awards)

Was it "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"?

Try downloading the latest Apple DVD Player version. If that doesn't fix your problems, try booting with the standard extension set.

thanks for the advice.

and, yes, that was the name of the movie--

i tried a different dvd movie and it worked! someone said that some
movies are coded differently and the dvd rom can't read it???

how do you get the updated version of the dvd player? does it cost anything?

Yes. Different DVD's are encoded differently, and some play better than others. Software decoding isn't exactly perfect. Emulation is just not as great as a hardware decoder.

You can get the update off Apple's website. It's free! Apple has it on their website. This should help!
