As if I read peoples signatures

Good to hear, though I'm wary of how it will perform on inferior systems.

I wonder what was used in the keynote. Dual 2GHz G5 no doubt.

I'm just shocked that FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) would be voiced by Cipher13 of all people...

Yeah, realism is such a rare quality nowadays, eh Dave?

Despite what you may think realism and pessimism are not one and the same.

A realist may have said:

" Okay, but what kinda system are you running "

A pessimist would say:

" On your dual 1.42? "

Notice that one was written in a way to promote a continued friendly discussion to ascertain the configuration of the system the poster was using, while the other came off as a snide remark that implied that the OS was slow and the author was simply inflating the truth?

D

P.S. this is getting off topic so I'll stop where I am... Apologies to the topic starter for going OT.

I don't know about "F$ck Panther Rules", but on an iBook/800 it certainly is a lot faster. Sheets, window resizing, and effects are all much faster. Logging in occurs in about two seconds. Boot seems a bit faster.

That aside, I have a lot of concerns with the general disorganization of System Preferences, but we'll see how that's cleaned up by release.

It's noticeably faster than Jag on an iBook 600 with 8mb graphics. Everything is quicker from app launch to graphics.

They also fixed the "scrollbars stick at the top when pushing z in a long list of files in list view bug"

Thanks!

Let me be the first, or second, or maybe third, to say that expose is FAST, even on my 667mhz TiBook.

Really fast.

This is something that has always been there in OSX, the resizing of windows lags a bit , the corner of the window never really sticks 100% to the mouse cursor... I have the WWDC preview to and Panther doesn't really feel faster than Jaguar , up till now, but it doesn't feel slower either, bout the same... I guess these thing will only vanish on a G5.

Funny how half the people say it is totally fast and the other half say it isn't any faster at all.

That is what all these comments on the speed are total CRAPOLA!

It is day and night faster on my 1ghz powerbook. I didn't notice much of a difference when updating from 10.1 to jag...this is just nuts fast...although i had it slow down on me after about a day of use. Rebootinf fixed that. Hopefully all will be well.

I was really just hoping it wouldnt get slower...this is almost as nice as the boost from 10.0 to 10.1....much less needed though...

I was expecting a buggy piece of crap...this is just heaven...im so glad i didnt get that ibm thinkpad last month when it came time to get a new laptop...up until now i wasnt sure if i made the right choice...

the finder needs work though...network access is improved but it is hideous and inefficient with space...

Perceived OS speed is relative. There are so many factors that go into measuring the speed by perception alone. Always take speed comments with a grain of salt.

No, it's completely logical. Look at it another way, if 80 of 100 random Mac users say Panther is faster then you likely have an 80% chance of it being faster for you. Yet you always have 50/50 odds it won't be faster because you A) have a different config and B) your expectations are unique.

I know people keep asking about how well Panther works on older machines, but I have a Performa and I wanted to know if it will run on that? I hope I don't have to buy a new machine, damn I hate Apple for forcing everyone to upgrade thier hardware all the time!!!!!

This is not a perceived speed issue.

It really is the big one.

I've been testing previews since Rahpodsody. this one is way faster it's not a just you have a clean install overall speed. And it's nothing like jaguar. It's a huge difference.
Huge.

I've installed it on 7 machines now, and all have the same effect.

If you doubt it then tough for you.

Tested over a FIREWIRE connected HD to a 500 MHz iBook, not one chug, burp or slowdown, Panther is what we've been whining for...

As for all of these dang Panther threads PLEASE can't we just consolidate???
