...Ok...the new Powerbooks have made me consider a laptop for the first time...in fact, I am thinking of having it replace my old B&W G3. Now the only thing is, that I am thinking that the 12" model will be great for me, as long as I can hook up a secondary monitor, which is obviously possible, but I have a question about resolutions.
Being that I would most likely use the 12" screen for menus and such, and use the larger external monitor for most of my work, can I have 2 separate resolutions running? And what is the max resolution of the PB 12"? I can't seem to find that anywhere.

It's in the specs.
Yes. Two different resolutions. The 12" supports up to 1600x1200 on the external monitor.

out of curiosity, how do you set different resolutions for each monitor? I haven't used this in X, does it give u a separate displays pref pane for each display like in 9? can you set separate background images?

Yes, two panels pop up - one on each display. My favorite is using the Menu Extra in OSX. Two clicks away from changing either display's resolution or color settings. And yes you can use separate background images.
Good times.
