Nvidia is toast, there's no way the NV4x series can keep up with that. They're dead even before they get to ship the first card.

Not in the high end market, ATi have stunk for years, virtually none of the pro apps, like XSI, maya, Max function properly with ATi's cards. the drievrs have been cr@p for years. The gaming market however is different, but ATi really really need to get their act together for 3D apps. they're just a joke these days. nVidia will be around for a good while yet, it's not the performance that matters in the high-end, so much as the stability.

Anyway, good news on the tech. they've come up with.

Did you guys read the thread? nVidia isn't toast:

"Nvidia is telling 'selected people' that NV40 is indeed 210 millions of transistor chip with 16 pipelines as we reported a few weeks ago."

So they'll be on par with each other. It'll be interesting.

Oh, really? I guess all that Maya work I do with my 9700 is just elven magic?

As for the drivers, although they have been bad in the past, I haven't had a lick of trouble with the Catalyst drivers.

Have they updated the Elven Magic drivers for Maya yet, Mike?

Awesome. Competition is good.

I'd love to se what studio you work in, cause no-one I know, from ILM, to Digital Domain, to many freelancers touch those drivers, or cards, and much prefer nVidia. It might not be a problem for the hobbyist, but in a production environment it's a far different story.

have a read of highend 3d, or cgtalk, or cgchannel to see how bad ATi cards are.
