Does anyone know if the iPod Shuffle keeps track of playcounts? More specifically, does it sync the playcount back to iTunes?
Thanks in advance,
Zach

How odd. I was *just* wondering the same thing. Do any of the iPods sync back play-count data to iTunes, for that matter?
I have a smart playlist called 'backlist' which is all the songs that I've not listened to in six weeks. If I had an iPod (shuffle or otherwise), I'd probably listen mostly to that list. But I wouldn't want then to listen to the same songs that I may have already listened to while out and about back home.

I don't think the other iPods do that either.

Well, mine does (sync back play count, that is), and since I listen to my music now mainly via my ipod that's pretty important to me.

Won't know about the shuffle until it comes in, but the other iPods definitely do. That's how I mostly listen to my music.

according to the ipodlounge.com, the ipod shuffle will sync back the playcount if you set it as auto-sync, but it doesn't have the last played date because the ipod shuffle doesn't have a clock.

But (I think) only if you auto-sync.

I just discovered that the Shuffle doesn't update the "last played" info. Because all of my playlists rely on picking songs that haven't been played in the last few days, I'm really disappointed by this.

Then the capability of these smartlists would be handy:
"keep in playlist if count of song on iPod is the same as count in iTunes"?
or "keep in playlist if song playcount < average playcount"

No, what he's saying is the playlist count would increase, but not the time that the song was played. So if you're like me and you have a Smart Playlist that plays all high-rated songs not heard in the last 2 weeks, you're screwed.
