how do i authorize my ipod to work on my computer?

ok so recently my computer crashed and i had to delete all my msic files from my computer. but i still have all my music on my ipod. heres the prob my mom accedently locked it and i dunno the password. now i need to find out how to authorize this ipod to my computer so it will automatically unlock it. is this possible? i sure hope so. and help would be great thanks.

AFAIK, if your iPod is password-protected and you forgot the combination, the only option you have is to completely wipe it.

for the mac:
# Mount the ipod (plug it in)
# Navigate to XiPod_Control\Device\ (where X is the drive letter of the iPod)
# Find the file called "_locked" and open it with Notepad or TextEdit
# There's your code.

for the pc:
# Plug the ipod into the computer
# Go to My Computer--->Your iPod Drive--->iPod_Control--->Device
# Find the file called "_locked" and open it with Notepad
# There's your code.
