Just this week my mac has started to exhibit this strange behaviour.

Everytime I insert a cd into the machine, once I try to eject it, the mac informs me that it can't because the disc is in use by an application and cannot be ejected. If I have any (or several) apps open then quitting any one of them then frees up the disc to be ejected. If no apps are running, force quitting the finder has the same effect.

External drives do the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried restarting? What other things have you attempted? When you restart, do it in single user mode, command-S, and run fsck by typing ' fsck -yf ' and return. If there are problems, repeat until all is OK.ß
