A friend of mine asked me to make a web page with the mouse pointer looking like a magnifying glass. It is supposed to magnify anything you mouseover. Is this possible? I know that it can be done using Flash but is it possible to use DHTML or anything else to achieve the same effect?

Practically speaking, you can do most anything with DHTML, but you're looking at some extreme programming. The Web wasn't made for that kind of interaction. Changing the cursor is relatively easy, it can be done with CSS

body style="cursor: pointer;"

there's a list of things you can change it to over at w3schools.com, Magifying glass isn't on there, but you can use a url to point to a graphic...
