Amazing unboxing photos of a brand new Apple //c

Does anyone else have old Macs that are still untouched in boxes?

Found the link on Digg.

I had one of those but before the Mac came out. Then I got a Mac Plus and have been Mac only ever since.

Ahhh.... that brings back memories.
I had one of those in high school and college. The Apple IIc and the Imagewriter got me through so many papers over those years. My roommates leoved it too, because back then not too many students had easy access to computers, and instead of having to haul their butts 1 mile to the university computer lab to print out a paper or assignment, they were able to stay in the dorm/apartment and get it done. (Which of course meant more time for One on One: Dr. J. vs. Larry Bird, Jeopardy, F-15 Strike Eagle, Lode Runner, Lemonade stand, and so on...)

The Apple //c was my third computer. Although, I only had my second one for a week. Apple introduced the //c one week after I bought my //e and I called the dealer and they swapped it out for me. I had to make up the difference, but I thought it was worth it.

Absolutely amazing. WOW. I can only imagine the smell of the hardware as you opened the box... and I can feel your excitement. It's like a time warp back to 1988!

So very-very cool, and I would have opened it too.

Andy8 didn't buy it.

This story ran on Gizmodo. According to them, a guy named Dan Budia paid $2553 on eBay for this. Yes, he could've had his pick of Apple's current lineup, but I guess the nostalgia factor was too strong. Anyway, here's the article: Retromodo: Virgin Apple IIc Unboxed, Groped

On a first read, I thought the title was claiming the guy was a virgin.

$2553 for an Apple //c? Use an emulator. Seriously, what are you going to DO with an Apple //c nowadays? Play with it for a few days and then realize "I dropped two grand for THIS?".

New hotness. But $2500+? Really? Must be a wealthy collector.

Yeah... but hey, in a few decades I'm sure it'll be worth thousands. He should've kept it in the box...

I've got a complete Apple ][ Plus in my closet somewhere...still starts up and works fine AFAIK. My parents' real estate agent found it in some basement and gave it to me when I was a teenager. I took a look at the internals and there's actually some ID number sharpied on the motherboard....

Not nearly enough pics.

Besides, unboxing didn't become cool until Apple dumped the brown boxes and went with the cooler, colored packaging. I think this happened when the iMac first shipped (1998).

The iPod box for my 3G 40GB is absolutely a stunner in packaging design. (Sorry, no pics).

if I had a bunch of money laying around, I'd 've bought it. Man that's cool.

After being locked in a stuffy box (which, judging by the lack of thick layers of dust, was also kept inside some kind of protective something) for 20 years? Yes, thankfully, I can only imagine the smell, not actually smell it.

I wonder what one does with it once it is unboxed and played with for a few days. Box it up and sell it again perhaps?

My very first computer was an Apple //c, and I can't see wanting to part with this computer, ever.
$2500 worth of sentimentality in a computer?
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

Some people have money to do this. Some people collect old cars. Some people collect old computers. Is it really that offensive to you how other people spend their money?

Who said anything about being offended?
