I've tried Tweetie, Twitterriffic, Tweetsville and Twitterfon. The winner, IMHO, is Tweetie - hands down. You can do almost everything from Tweetie that you'd need to from the website, the developer (atebits) is actively working on 2.0 for when OS 3.0 comes out and it has a clean, no BS GUI.
Twitterriffic is the one you'll hear a lot of buzz about, but the paid version is $9.99, which is a joke considering it offers not half the functionality of the other top-tier clients. The free version is ad-riddled, which for free software is their right. I'd rather pay a few bucks and get great software. The IconFactory is supposedly working on a version 2.0, which I'll enthusiastically check out. For all its faults, it's the most beautiful program I've seen. The GUI polish is 10 out of 10.
Tweetsville falls between the previously mentioned pair. I like its layout and look, but it's a little crashy at times. Twitterfon left no impression on me whatsoever, so no comments, except that I didn't use it more than a day.
iLounge did a recent comparo of 33 (yes, THIRTY-FRAKKIN'-THREE) Twitter apps, complete with a report card and tons of great screenshots. Find it here.

Tweetie by far. It's not perfect though: some odd UI choices, and it doesn't integrate with all picture services.

If you want a free one, I recommend NatsuLion or Nambu.
If you want a paid one, Twittelator Pro is the best, by far. Tweetie is second. The rest are just okay. I also bought LaTwit and SimplyTweet, which are just okay for the both.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I'm a big fan of TwitterFon, although I rarely use Twitter (I think it's kind of retarded, TBH). It's got the features I use, with a super clean interface.
I think Twitteriffic is pretty bad. The UI on it is gross, and it has in-app ads unless you pay.

Twitteriffic is often heralded and just OK.
Tweetie, for sure.

Yeah I hear Tweetie is cool, however I've been using twitterfon and it isn't so bad. Might have to try tweetie though...

Free: Twitterfon
£1.79: Tweetie
Twitterfon looks pretty much identical to Tweetie, but Tweetie has just a few extra features (eg. find who is nearby) that, in my opinion, make it worth it. But if you are after a free client I'd recommend Twitterfon definitely - I used it regularly until I decided to check out Tweetie.
