Hi,

just replaced the hard drive in a 1 GHz 14" iBook G4 following the excellent instructions on ifixit.com. It took a while as there are quite a few steps but now it turns out that the screen doesn't work; it lights up but shows nothing. If I connect an external monitor to the iBook, it works fine so it's only the built-in display that's not working. I must by accident have done something I shouldn't while replacing the drive, but I don't know where to start to find out. Do I have to remove all those screws one more time to check if everything is fine?

Thanks...

Yup.

This is why you should always do a quick power up before completely closing the case.

Hopefully, the only problem is you forgot to reconnect a display cable or reconnected it incorrectly. Remember there are two cables: one for the display itself and one for the backlight. You don't indicate whether it's just the backlight not working, but you should check both cables.

Right, I had to go all the way back and you are correct, the display cable wasn't connected properly. Now it works again. Thanks!
