This should work with my old Titanium 1Ghz PowerBook G4 (10.5.8) to give me USB 2 speeds with hard drives and flash drives right?

Oh.

Often times it turns out that drivers are not really necessary for many accessories, especially with the more recent OS versions, I was hoping that this would be one of those times.

I guess I will look for one with a Mac specific driver.
