It's been reported that Wikileaks current burn rate is EUR 480,000 per week (!!!).

At the current FX rate, this makes it a yearly "Budget" of $ 34M.

I couldn't find any information what all this money is being used for.
Has anyone any links or info ?

The amount just seems unbelievably high.

I'd be curious what typical high-volume commercial hosting rates are globally. I can't see the combination of hosting and whatever other sorts of business (online credit card account, offices, etc.) costing half a million Euros a week...

That can't be it. Wikipedia needs $15M per year to pay for hosting and admin.

I highly doubt WikiLeaks uses more bandwidth than Wiki.

Probably heavy use of anonymizing services for their volunteers. They air dirty laundry from governments, multinational corporations, major banks, etc. All parties with money and power.

If all the big & bad boys were out to get you, your security & hosting costs would be high too. Bulletproof vests are not cheep, and food-tasters don't go cheap either.

Hosting costs are inflated due to a lack of options... hard to find a host to take their money.
