MixRadio, originally called
Nokia Music and owned by Line, has exited its
beta testing and is now available to download on
iOS and
Android. Previously available only on Windows Phone and already available in 31 markets, the cross-platform music streaming service has managed to retain the majority of its features during the porting process, including free personalized playlists.
The core of MixRadio revolves around "Mixes," the playlists generated by music professionals, as well as a "My Mix" that is created based on the user's liked artists and tracks. Users can choose to download up to four mixes to a smartphone for offline use, completely free of charge, with the option to switch out the mix for another one whenever they get back online. While it is free, a monetized version of the service is still being worked on, and is likely to offer functions such as an increased number of offline mixes.
The iOS version of the app will be usable on iPhones running iOS version 8.0 or later, though the app is apparently not designed for use on iPads. The Android version is compatible with version 4.1 and newer generations of the mobile operating system, though HTC devices will also gain exclusive music updates from the service through HTC Blinkfeed.
