I upgraded my 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 using the updater I downloaded. That went fine. Then I reinstalled my 9.2.1 install so I can add support for Koren and Japanese language. Then I tried to upgrade to 9.2.2 again, but I get the "Big System Morsels" error message. I've gotten this error in the past when upgrading a system with extra languages installed. Is this a common problem? Has anyone else succeeded in upgrading a Mac OS that has extra languages installed?

I had that problem too, when updating my Classic System Folder. It isn't the languges that caused it. Don't despair though... found a workaround.

Boot off a CD. Start on the update; go as far as you can without beginning the installation.

Move the Finder, MacOS ROM, System Enabler (if applicable) System Resources and System file(s) to the trash and THEN complete the installation.

Easy.

Strange workaround. So the updater can't replace these components if they're in use and in the system folder? Or maybe it's because they're in use. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Nah, it's a general thing from way back that I had to use... worked it out one night when the OS 9.1 updater came out.

Only the US version was available, I had the international 9.04. So after realising I downloaded 60 megs over dialup for nothing... well, yeah. I was gonna use that updater one way or another

...that's how it went.

The updater/installer sees the files and knows you have a valid system to udpate; it knows you're not just trying to get the system for free by updating nothing (you can make a full install from updaters sometimes, if you know what you're doing) because the files are there to start with; then you remove them, so it has no arguments updating these files. Because it's just placing its own, no replacing/checksumming is going on
