I have an August 2004 iMac G5 that i am swapping out the 80 gb SATA seagate drive with a 250 GB SATA II seagate drive.
The 80 gb had the first of two slots covered with a jumper. I have read that SATA drives do not requuire jumpers at all, so i was wondering what it's purpose was and if it was going to cause me any problems. I can't find anywhere that actually diagrams what the different jumper configurations on SATA II hard drives actually do. Can someone point me to a good site or offer some info?
Thanks!!!
P.S. as an aside, be warned that this generation of iMac has a faulty logic board. Apple has graciously extended the warranty on these models, so mine was covered when it died 2 weeks ago (i took it back to the apple store and they fixed it within a couple days). but if suddenly your iMac has trouble booting up and you get what looks like static interference on your monitor (and desktop icons stop drawing), then take it to an apple store ASAP.
