I know earlier PB's had poor AirPort reception. Has the current models improved to at least to be on par with the iBooks or is this impossible given the materials used?

not in my house...
my 12" pb revC gets 3 bars where my iBook G3 sees 4...
and the ibook finds more networks (not that that matters)
regardless, the pb works fine; well worth it!

Same here .I can have the iBook and PB next to each other and have full strength on the iBook and 2 bars less on the PB.
Even with this and worse Battery life I am sticking with the PB. It just feels so much nicer.

If your PBAl receptin is WORSE than a TiPB, something is wrong with your antennae in the Al PB.
The clamshell iBooks have a better reception than the newer iBooks. What I'd like to see is a comparison of a recent iBook with a recent PB using Airport Express.

iBook would be full strength to 3 bars, and PB is 3 bars to 2 bars.

It's all to do with the houseing of said book. Sometimes I wish I still had my Pismo.

i loved my pismo, but...why would anyone go backwards?
would not give up the speed/size/vram/brightscreen etc etc etc of the alBook for one more bar of airport reception...
( just a thought )

Cuz I used be able to go all over the place and not worry about my wireless reception. I'm not saying I'd go back for my normal use, just wish I still had it to surf around the house. Point taken though.

that's what i thought - about my Al PB, but i took it in to the genius bar three different times, making sure to get helped by three different people, and they told me that it was 'within spec'. i haven't sent it in because it hasn't really been an actual problem. i still get a signal everywhere in my house (it's pretty small) that i can use. but if you ever compare the signal between the two powerbooks, the titanium's is always better.

The signal reception of some mac laptops is the following in my experience:
iBook [clamshell] > Pismo > AlPB17 >> TiPB
In many cases, I see two more bars with my AlPB17 than with my old TiPB.
Not sure what the Apple 'geniuses' told you, but if I were you, I'd ask to borrow one of their demo models to directly compare with your machine.

I would add that I get 4 bars on the DUAL USB iBook (G3) and 3 bars on iBook G4. Not sure if this is because the Airport drivers are not the same (Aiport vs Airport Extreme)
