Wait no more! The things these hacker-geeks figure out

http://www.bbspot.com/News/2005/06/c...ton_hacks.html

The most popular hack, which works on most models, is the "Instant Walk." Three short clicks, followed by two long, one short, two long, and three short; turn any crosswalk signal from "don't walk" to "walk" with a matching change in the traffic signals.

Until I moved recently, I was living in a small "City" (although it is technically a city, it's only 20,000 people) so cross walks weren't a huge issue. Now I'm living in a downtown urban setting, I've only been driving my vehicles about once a week to get groceries, and at that just the stuff I can’t get at the farmers market down the street. Everywhere else I go is on foot. Not that this hack would be a huge time saver, but I'm looking forward to trying just for the novelty. I will be the new Traffic God!

This I must try first thing tomorrow morning. We'll see if it also works outside the US (if inside). Well, okay, I'm not really expecting it to work, the whole story just seemed like too much of a spoof, but I've got one of those pedestrian beeper thingies on my way to work, so I'll try it there.

Oh, and I see you finally got around to fixing that sig of yours—about time too!

XD. I wonder if this works on both the big-button ones and the small-button ones.

Man they should make it against the law to have those small-button ones. I hate it when those get gum and stuff on them.

I didn't think they worked anyway:

That's pretty cool; gonna have to try it.

I found this gem at the end of the article (my emphasis):
The FBI has shut down the button hack site citing violations of the DMCA and fears that terrorists might use the hacks to "cross the streets of America at will."

Yeah, that's the one that convinced me it was a spoof.

Dammit, I didn't see that terrorist thing. I just glanced through the article when I saw it linked on engadget or hack-a-day, I forget which.
