Many of my users requested a 'full size' keyboard when they received their new G4s. All were provided with a Macally iMediaKey USB keyboard. Now they all complain of routine mouse and occasional system freezes. Some of the mouse freezes are alleviated by disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse but many require a full system reboot. As a test I replaced one of the keyboards with the original Apple version. The problem has vanished. Macally is playing dumb on this issue. Anyone else see this type of behavior with 3rd party keyboards?
PS: all systems running 9.0.4, more or less vanilla control panels and extensions (including USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5)

Must be some kind of extension conflict, IMO. I have seen the same behevior when scanner drivers (USB) and Digicam drivers (USB) conflicted with the Microsoft Eplorer mouse drivers. HTH

The only external USB device is a VST floppy. The driver is up to date but will disable it on one machine to investigate further. BTW the keyboard and mouse combo is connected directly to the G4, no hub in the way.

I had a MacAlly iMedia keyboard that gave me all kinds of problems.I could not keep my mac in the sleep mode with the keyboard attached and all kinds of freezes at different intervals.MacAlly's fix was to unplug the keyboard when a problem arose,my solution was to exchange it for an Apple ProKeyboard.End of Problems.

I've had loads (really) of MacAlly keyboards eat it. They are pretty cheap, so it's not a huge loss.
I don't recommend them.

All G4 with Mac Ally Keyboards i've seen had problems with it. Once every 2 hours or so of use, there's no response from the USB chain and you have to unplug/replug to reactivate it!

On some computers, i had to disconnect the keyboards to boot the computers!!

(No external USB devices attached.)

I have a MacAlly iKey (not iMediaKey or whatever), and I've never had any real problems. I've had a few mouse freezes (maybe 5 or 6) in the year that I've had it, but that's only happened when I started my G4 and didn't do anything for 15 minutes (may be a sleep problem). Otherwise it's worked perfectly.

By the way, the reason I bought this keyboard was because I have a habit of banging it when I get frustrated, and, on one such occasion, broke the delete key on the original Mac keyboard. I bought the iKey, and I've found I can actually bang harder now without breaking anything (yet)!! It seems to take punishment surprisingly well.
