Back in May I bought a Western Digital My Book Pro Edition 500 GB which I'm currently using through FireWire 800 on a latest 24" iMac 2.8 Ghz.

After months of waiting WD finally updated the old button manger drivers by releasing "WD Drive Manager".

Downloads

The site states it requires Mac OS X 10.4.x or higher - I assume that incluses Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard given the release date of the application - and offers support for the My Book Pro Edition.

Yet somehow I can't get it to work on my iMac using Mac OS X v10.5.2. After installing the software the capacity gauge remains dim and the button itself does not respond while it should unmount the drive.

The drive itself works fine, but as you might imagine it would be nice to have all of it's features.

Any ideas?

They have since dropped My Book Pro Edition from their Compatible Products list. Bought a My Book Pro Edition 750GB and have 10.5.2 and it does not work with it. Hopefully they'll sort it out soon and I can see the full functionality of the drive.

This is definitely the last time I buy a Western Digital external HD. It's frustrating that after al these months they still haven't updated their drivers.
