Family matters.

The trailer is special. I know the game has yet to be shown in any state, but from what I've heard, it sounds good (and perhaps different enough to distinguish itself).

It's going to be a truly open-world game, and there is going to be limited weaponry on the island. Since it's a resort, you're not going to find a wide arsenal. You might find a gun with limited ammo in a man's desk, for instance. Hearing IGN staffers describe it in a podcast, the island is going to be varied and completely open. Basically a modern day RDR with zombies.

Having skipped the whole Left 4 Dead series, I'm still excited about a zombie game.

That's probably going to be their biggest hurdle.

As I said before, no need to provide an "excuse." I was merely pointing out the current flow of events.

Yeah, you're expecting way too much to be made from a trailer. And you're completely neglecting that Zombies are a specialized genre, like FPSs, only with a way smaller fanbase.

Seriously, I never got excited about MW2s teaser trailer, and I wouldn't be all like "You're dead inside" if someone yawned about another FPS.

As for your gameplay claims, they're so ambitious that it couldn't possibly live up to them.

Will this make the Jawboner go soft?
Dead Island: how the gameplay stacks up to must-see trailer
Killing the zombies in fun ways will get you experience points, and you'll use those points to level up and create a zombie-killing machine no matter what character you play as. Your friends can jump in and out of your game at will to help you survive. The setting is goofy, the voice-acting is subpar, and many of these concepts seem to have been borrowed from past games, but it all looks good. Certainly goofier than we were hoping for based on the trailer, but I went into the appointment excited about the game, and left wanting to get my hands on it and play some more. That's a win, no matter how you cut it.
It does sound like Zombie Borderlands.

I thought Dr. Zed was so boring. Also, when are we playing RDR?

Kotaku, the Gamer’s Guide
That family and their sad voyage from happy vacationers to terrified victims of the undead isn't going to be in the game, said Blazej Krakowiak, international brand manager for developer Techland.
Saw that coming a mile away. ANother reason I was tepid on the game from the trailer.

The game is meant to explore a sense of loss, of beauty corrupted. That's why the outbreak takes place on what Krakowaik calls an island paradise, but, he says, it's really a game about killing zombies.
While you can move anywhere at any time, you may not want to. The further you wander from the territory of the main story and side missions, the more dangerous the zombies you encounter get.

Because the game has some heavy role-playing elements, and your character can improve skills and become a more proficient zombie killer, the difficult of the three sorts of zombies you'll run into will also scale.

IGN Review - 8.0

This review and video review have me pretty interested in this game now, the original trailer sparked my interest but that fizzled quick, its now officially on my radar, any one else interested?

This quote from the IGN review may spark some interest from Mr. Fatty (it did for me)
Dead Island is Fallout 3 with zombies. Plenty of people are going to compare it to Dead Rising (as you can create weapons) and Left 4 Dead (as the action is first-person and good for four players online), but when I finally got past the game's obtuse opening and less than stellar cutscenes, I found a world rife with quests, interesting environments, and a character progression system that had me begging for more hours in the day.

I'm very skeptical anytime a game is compared to Fallout 3, because in the past that has not been the case in the least. I'm still almost certain I'll be picking this game up, maybe not until I finish Deus Ex, but definitely at some point.

Apparently, Dead Island is a bug-ridden disaster.

I also will probably pick up Rage.

Since Rage requires a huge install I am not getting it until I find a cheap solution to buying a massively overpriced HDD from Microsoft.

So far I'm liking it, quite a bit. Fallout with Zombies I can agree with as a good description so far.

Sorry sek. Only 11 more days until Gears 3 is released. See you in November for some MW3 action.

What size hard drive do you have now? 13GB? 20GB? You can always buy one of those generic drives that range from $35-$50. I purchased one to upgrade my previous 360 from 13GB to 120GB but the damn thing died before I could install it. I gave the generic HD to my brother after purchasing a second xbox 360 (Elite model). The generic drive works just fine on his system.
