Ok, the U.S. made it to the quarterfinals but a juggernaut blocks their way to the semis. Loungers, predict the outcome:

If the USA win THIS one, I urge anybody in power to be on the lookout for a large sum of money deposited into any known bank accounts with ties to the German soccer league.

Common sense. Germany, my gutsUS.
I dont think Germany is as good as in Italy 90, and lately they had several fiascos in the Europe cup and previous World cups. Still, I think they are a more capable team. It will be fun to watch since I think they play very similar

I think in general, Germany is a much more consistent team. But if the US get's lucky or the Germans get unlucky...

Imagine how devastating we would be if the USA really took an interest in soccer.

There was no such thing as soccer in the Southern US before 1990. Until the Great Yankee Migration of the late 80's there were only real sports like baseball and football below the Mason-Dixon line.

[got this email today]

Ah yes, the World Cup. A time when the world comes together to be united in celebration of the team spirit, when countries join hands across the planet...a time to show peace and maturity...a time to reach out to millions of households with the aid of advanced broadcast media. The perfect chance to teach our young the essence of fair competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie...

Ah yes, Soccer.

How long has basketball been king in North Carolina? No, not the Hornets, the Tar Heels and the Blue Devils. Tell a true Carolinian that Dean Smith didn't coach a real sport. You'll be given the "Southern necktie" from the nearest tree.

How about two more words for you: NAS-CAR. Tell your neighbors there that NASCAR isn't a real sport. You're been tarred-and-feathered in the town square.

On top of that, how many pro-baseball teams were in the South before the Braves moved to Atlanta? ZERO.

Go back to Cleveland, and ditch the fake accent while you're at it.

Lucky for you folks that I'm fair game because I'm a Southern white man, huh?

The fact that I'm a militant right-wing conservative who believes a child has its best advantage in life when raised by a man and woman only helps perpetuate the stereotypical mindset you have about Southerners - and anyone else you can poke fun at while still remaining 'true' to the liberal ideologies that are, in essence, the root cause of moral decay.

Take your best shot, folks. I'll take comfort in the fact that I never cater to popular opinion and I always say what I believe, regardless.

Not everyone has the balls to be me - but everyone hopes to, someday.

I merely poked fun at that picture which makes you look like a funny stereotype, IMO. We all have bad pictures, TN. Just bustin' your balls a bit. I wouldn't do it if I didn't know that you're thick skinned enough to deal with some chain jerkin'.

The second picture defintely appears to be a different person. Is either of these you? Are they both? It's hard for me to see any resemblance between the two people other than facial hair of one kind or another.

We've butted heads on lots of topics, TN, but you'll always be entitled to your opinion. I find I respect you a lot more when you actually DEFEND your opinion with sound reasoning rather than when you resort to name calling as so often happens to many here at MacNN. You certainly don't have a monopoly on partisan reflexology on these boards.

Of course, if you really are in the closet, let me just say--Give love a chance. It could be bliss, you never know.

I am never offended by any comments I read on BBS sites. I simply don't care what anybody thinks. works for me.

Posting embarrassing pictures of TN is easy...you just aren't looking in the right places:

Just once one of your moronic flames backfires on you completely and lo and behold, what do we have, but TNproud2b getting all defensive about some idiotic picture that no one gives a stuff about anyway. For once it really got to you, and you behaved like a human being and actually made a POINT instead of your usual empty bullsh-it posing as if nothing can touch you. You seem just too stupid to see what makes people like one: vulnerability. Nobody likes idiots who behave like teenagers who are so insecure that they run around pretending that nothing can touch them. Your usual bullstory about being the most desirable man in the US "but you're controlling yourself" is so obviously a pathetic front for your loneliness, and it often seems as if the only person you're fooling is yourself. And just for a moment there we saw the real Alan who is a human being like the rest of us. And now you're back to your usual bullcrap. It's a pity.

Too bad some loud mouth white southern American guy just like you hit my friend in the back with a baseball bat as she was getting out of her car Monday night. Seems he thought she was the lesbian who "stole his girl friend and turned her gay." Fortunately, they caught the guy.

So, I would join your little master race pity party, but I have to go see my friend in the hospital. Why don't you try rubbing your two brain cells together before you speak next time.

Edit: Oh, and I don't see the US sneaking past Germany unless it's a major upset. Of course, I'm more worried about England and Brazil. England will have to play even better than they did against Argentina to sneak past Brazil. It's nail biting time.

Getting back on topic, I see Germany beating the lesbian's, only to offer them group showers afterwards.

Sorry about the human being. It's sad for you that you can't see yourself in the mirror, because the way you carry on with your woman hatred, you seem to be very bitter and the day you see that you aren't perfect and are capable of making mistakes is the day you'll be able to understand why your last partner left you. You'll be amazed to find out that not many women like men who are too afraid to show their real feelings.

You're dreaming if you think I'm crazy enough to get into a personal picture posting competition with you. Think what you want but I appreciate a little self respect.

I'm actually starting to get very tired of these flame contests with you because they won't change anything. If there's anything I've learned online it's that people who have personality defects and crave the negative attention enough to fit their imbalanced picture of themselves to go purposely trolling are not going to respond to any kind of normal human conversation. What that means is that I'm done and finished with your trolling. I can't stand women haters but I won't change you and fortunately I won't ever have to meet you personally. Sometimes God is merciful. Goodbye.

I posted this poll in the hopes I'd start a discussion on the merits of the soccer teams in the aforementioned game coming up this Friday. Even a nice p|ssing contest between the Euro's and a few diehard American fans would've been entertaining.

Instead I got an immature, totally pointless series of character assasinations with a few on topic posts in the mix. I thought the MacNN boards were above this kind of thing for the most part. Grow up guys.

GO USA! 1 day to go.

Theo, that was the third time you posted a link to what you think is a picture of me.

You are obsessed with trying to 'get even' by being rude - simply because you can't win an argument with me.

Far from being 'humiliated', I nearly always laugh so hard at your 'flame posts' that coffee spurts out of my nose.

But anyway,

Post your pic....unless you want me to do it for you.

In any case. I still think the US is going to lose, but not by a big margin. The US team is definitely the best(or the luckiest) that has ever been in a World Cup. If the US team gets lucky or Germany has a bad day, the US would still have to play against the team that thrashed them in the group matches: Korea. If that happens, then you'll have the rematch of the century I think.

If the previous games by both teams are any indication the ref will have to force them forward for the kick off. During the rest of the game you better hope the ball does not stop rolling in mid field neither of the two teams seems to consider that part of the pitch worth playing in.

PS. Sayonara Japan. See you in Germany 2006.

Looks like the majority was right by a small margin. Well played guys, just a tough opponent, tough breaks and a bit of an excitable referee. Whatever happened to letting the teams just play?
