Hello

Is there any way that I could use my powerbook (pismo version) as a monitor for a G4?

Not without taking it apart.

And even after taking it apart: no.

Besides, you could sell the Pismo and get a 17" LCD with the money you made.

Why don't you sell me the Pismo?

What do those go for anyway?

They go for $300 -$600, bit more if they have lots of extras.

Don't see why you can't use the LCD from it as a monitor. You would need to know a bit about electronics of course.

Should just be a matter of mounting the necessary parts in a new case of your choice/construction.
You'd need the LCD panel (obviously), the display cables (data and power), and the inverter board.
Then you'd need to engineer your own powersupply for it. Amd build an adapter to use it as a VGA monitor (to convert the display data cable connection to a VGA port).

I may do this myself if I can't repair either of the logic boards I have.

I didn't mean taking it apart.....I meant connecting it via some cable or something. I thought this was possible.

Or over airport? Remote access?

I want the g4 as a server, but don't need a monitor.

No, like some people already told you, it's impossible to connect it to a desktop computer. What you can do however is a remote desktop that will enable you to control the server over network.

I've come across PC software that will turn a laptop into a second monitor through a network connection. Haven't seen anything for the Mac yet. I'll post a link once I find it.

There are several programs to do that, for example VNC (Virtual Network Computing) or PCAnywhere. Windows XP also comes with a built-in feature to do exactly that.
This is however what I meant when I said "remote desktop"

No. This isn't Remote Desktop. Here's the link:
http://www.maxivista.com/

MaxiVista turns any Laptop or Tablet PC into a second monitor of your primary PC. Program windows can be moved across both screens as it would be one big display.

Here's a review of the software:
Laptop as Monitor Impressions

As I said, I've been watching for something similar for the Mac, but haven't seen it yet. MaxiVista is working on a version that will allow you to use a Mac laptop running OSX as a second monitor for a PC. (http://www.maxivista.com/pressreleas...essrelease.htm)
