I am sure that is generally true, however, I recently bought a 1GB stick for less than the price of 2x512MB sticks - it works and has meant that I did not have to sell/get rid of my factory fitted 256MB.

Depsite all this, it is all relative since this was cheap for the UK -104 in taxes and delivery - which equates to about $190 I think at today's exchange rates.

That's a good price. The best I've seen lately is about US$300.

i'm not sure why, but the price of RAM always seems to fluctuate, one week, a 512 chip could be as cheap as $70, next week, it could skyrocket upwards of $125 at least thats the experiance i've always had when buying RAM...
i'm too lazy to come up with a sig

Two 512MB chips are typically cheaper than one 1GB chip. I suppose the big ones are harder to make.

Transintl.com I have a 1gb chip from there and its worked great for well over a month. 199 + 8 shipping = 207. Their price has fluctuated between 199 and 249. Its 199 NOW and they specifically claim it works with the eMac. Crucial.com (which is a FANTASTIC vendor, BTW) claims a 512mb max per slot for the eMac on their site which to me says it would be unclear whether their 1gb chips have the proper config to work in the eMac (the emac has some pretty tight specs on what chip configs they will take -- so I felt more comfortable buying the ram from a place that clearly stated that it would work in the new eMac).
