I've downloaded some single player maps but don't know how to select them in the game. Some had a PC .bat file with them which is obviously no use on the Mac. Any help appreciated!

You have to launch them through the console.

What map(s) are you trying? If you are trying "The Great Escape" please see my posts in the comments section for that map over at CoDFiles.com... you have to create an extra file to play that map.

For the others, just bring down the console by pressing the Tilda key (~ = The key left of the 1 key).

Then type: /map mapname

("mapname" = whatever the name of the map is. I think there are only 4 SP maps out: Ardennes, Leoncod1, Knowles (Fort Knox, which doesn't work, btw), and The_Great_Escape)

Then hit enter, and enjoy!

After loading, the map will be saved, so you can then launch it from the Load menu.

Fantastic! Thanks for your help. Is the great escape worth trying?

You're welcome!

Yeah, The Great Escape is worth trying. See my comments at CODFiles for more info, but here are the instructions:

Create a new Plain Text document.

Type: +set g_connectpaths 1

Save the file and name it: MacCoDParms.txt

Place the file in the Call of Duty folder (NOT in the "Main" folder!) (You might want to keep a copy of this text file elsewhere, as sometimes it gets deleted... I think when playing the MP game)

Start CoD SP, and launch the map through the console:

Bring down the console with the ~ key. (Tilda - left of the 1 key)

Type: map the_great_escape

Enjoy!

The map will be saved after loading, so to play it the next time, just launch it from the Load menu.

Good Luck!

I tried it earlier actually and it works. I couldn't work out how to get out of the cell though!

Ardennes is very cool too, though noticeably harder than the main game on the easy setting!

Yeah, Ardennes is awesome, but nearly impossible... I had to cheat to get through it.

And, yes, The Great Espace works without adding that file, BUT, if you don't make the file, the guard will never move from infront of the cell door.... like I said, read my comments at CODfiles, and you would know this.

You have to create that file in order to make the guard move throughout the jail so you can get out of the cell without being bashed to death.

And, you just hit F (or whatever your action key is set to) on the right side of the cell door to open it.

o_O

Great Escape is hard! Almost no health left and I'm stuck in the big hangar with the tanks in. There seems to be nothing but death for me outside!

Really annoyed with Ardennes as I was making good progress but tonight when I try and load th level I get an error! I'm going to have to start it again

Are you familiar with how to enable cheats? I will post the instructions when I get home....

And, The Great Escape gets even harder once you get outside!

Do you remember what error Ardennes gave you?

The Ardennes error was: 'G_LoadGame: the bsp file has changed since the game was saved'. The only thing I've done since playing it was installing the great escape level.

And no I don't know how to do cheats...

Hmmm, well, maybe the error was created because you still had the MacCODParms file in the COD folder? Try removing it and see if that helps.

I'll post the instructions for creating a cheat file when I get home... in about an hour or so.

Okay, Cheats....

Creat a new Text document.

Type: +set thereisacow 1337 +set developer 1 +set sv_cheats 1 +set monkeytoy 0

Save the file as: MacCoDParms.txt

Place the file in your "Call of Duty" folder. *NOT in the "Main" folder.

(You will need to remove the MacCoDParms file you created for The Great Escape, or maybe you could try adding these parameters to the Great Escape file... not sure if that'd work or not)

Now that cheats are enabled, here is how to enter them:

Bring down the console with the Tilda (~) key, and type: /cheatcode

("cheatcode" should be replaced with one of the following codes, for example "/give all")

These are the cheat codes:

Code | Effect
-----------------------------------------------------
give | Gives player an object ("give mp40", etc.)
give health | Gives you full health.
god | Invulnerability.
notarget | The enemies won't shoot you.
noclip | Walk through walls and such.
give all | Gives the player all weapons in the game and full health.

ufo | Allows the player to zoom around the level, going up with jump and down with crouch.
toggle cg_thirdperson | Puts the camera at the 3rd person view. You are sometimes invisible.
toggle r_measureOverdraw | Puts the game in multi-colours.
toggle r_showtris | Shows the game in wireframe.
viewpos | Shows your co-ordinates in the console.
toggle g_entinfo | Shows scripts above all soldiers and highlights important objects.
toggle r_showLeafLights | Displays lines where the light comes through the leaves.
toggle r_showtricounts | Displays numbers on each texture.
toggle r_showportals | Displays where you can access.
toggle cg_drawshader | Tells you what each texture is.
toggle cg_drawgun | Makes your weapons invisible. Useful for people with lag.
toggle r_lightmap | Makes the ground and walls white.
toggle cg_draw2d | Disables the on screen icons, such as radar and health. Useful for taking good screenshots.
toggle r_lockpvs | Some textures turn invisible.
toggle r_fastsky | Removes clouds and makes the sky lighter.
map_restart | Restarts the current level.
r_vc_stats | Shows some stats about the game in the console.
kill | Kills the player.
give ammo | Gives the player 10 Grenades and 1 Panzerfaust. May not work on some levels.

Hey thanks for the cheat codes. Much to my amazement I just got to the end of the Great Escape without cheating! Very disappointing to find I couldn't jump out of the damn window at the end despite trying about 50 times. I read somewhere else that that is the end of the level so I'm pretty certain I did finish it. Annoying when you get glitches like that but hey it was free.

Now I guess I should try the Ardennes level again if I can get it working.

I had a problem getting out the window too. Try jumping and then crouching really quicly so you like land on the window ledge and crawl out. It took me several tries, but I did eventually get out.

...all you do after getting out the window is walk up the road and get a "Thanks for Playing" message.

I've tried starting an MP server and I just get a screen of gibberish scroll up the screen in the console - any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Example:

File Handles:
----------------------
60326 files in pk3 files
DLL game_mp loaded
------- Game Initialization -------
gamename: Call of Duty
gamedate: Jul 9 2004
0 teams with 0 entities

I believe, once you start the game, you can eject the DVD.

Not sure about the console message. Is the server not starting?

Have you entered your CD key in the MP app?

I seem to be doing everything right but I just get all that junk from the console, then the only thing I can do is type 'quit'. I can join internet games no problem at all.

Do you still have that cheat file installed? If so, maybe try removing it.

Do you have any files, other than the SP maps, installed in your "Main" folder?

You might want to try removing the contents of the Application Support folder located here:

I had the same problem and emailed Aspyr for help. Their answer:
When creating the server settings, there is a menu selection for dedicated server. Turn that off and it should work. I tried that last night and had my own server running in no time.

Also, I played the MP Omaha Beach last night. Wow!

Thanks for the help - I'll try that tonight. Or maybe in a minute... working from home is dangerous when you have a Dual G5 and Call of Duty!
