Has anyone here had any experience with MCE 8X Superdrive upgrade for the Powerbook G4? Thinking of replacing my combo-drive with this superdrive. Thanks!!

Has anyone seen a slot-loading dual-layer drive yet?
That would be a great upgrade!

I have installed it in my 12" powerbook. with 10.3.7 no patchburn is required. however i bought an of the shell drive and you have to do some work with the dremel to get the slot load bezel of the combo drive to fit the pioneer. not for weak at heart persons.

regards,

Roberto

The Pioneer DVR-K04L, slot-laoding dual drive, can be pruchased for less than $200, my most recent froogle search revealed a price of $149. Certainly is an appealing option for those folks that would like to upgrade to a Superdrive...

Don't know... if it's more than just a drive swap, then it might just be better to go external

Putting an internal in a external enclosure is the most cost effective way, $70 for a nice drive, and $30 for the enclosure, newegg.com. Besides DL discs are around $10 each.

Thanks all for your comments. The jury is still out as to whether or not I upgrade.

Yeah, but Floppies used to be $10 each too! By this time next year, they'll probably be less than a buck each. (look at DVD prices... I just paid $15 for 50!)
