Folks -

I'm a new MAC person (iMac G5), but a long time Unix/WinXP person. So far I'm pretty happy with the new environment.

One question I have relates to Windows XP file shares:

I have a WinXP server that acts as the primary file server for the house. It has MP3's, photos, videos, and misc. files. While I'm not having amy difficulties accessing the files, these shares/mounts go away after a reboot - maddening (especially for the wife, who likes to work with the photos).

I'm sure there is a way to make the mounts perpetual - is there a 'MAC' way to do this, or will I need to go into the Unix world to force manual SMB mounts?

Also - possibly slightly off topic, but related:

I have managed to figure out how to get iTunes to import the catalog of my MP3 files (via drag and drop, and specifying the 'don't copy files' option). I have not been able to get this to work with iPhoto. The drag and drop works, but a scan of the filesystem shows that all of the photos were copied to the Mac (about 4G at this point). Obviously, I'd like to keep the files in one central location, as well as any edits that are made using iPhoto. Is there a way to only have iPhoto reference the files on the server?

Thanks!
