how does everyone feel about this? think it should speed up transfers?

Don't think the iPod has FW800... so my answer is no.

It will not speed it up at all for many reasons.

The only reason I would get one would be to free up my firewire 400 port for something else.

No Apple has to remove the debug code from the iPod first for that to happen.
