Hi.

Just got myself a new G5 (finally).

I want to transfer all the data over from the G4 to the G5 automatically like it
does during setup.

This G5 didn't have Tiger on it but rather Panther when I bought it.

My G4 had Tiger. When I tried to do the automatic transfer thing it said I
needed to update it to the matching OS. I did.

However, I need to know what application did the automatic transfer process -
can anyone assist here? Then I can transfer all the data from my old CPU back
to the new.

Thanks.

you have to have a better OS or same on G5 maybe, you need to use setup assistant when installing the OS but I think you maybe able to do that in Tiger automatically without installing again.

Figured it out.

Updated the machine to Tiger and then used the Migration Assistant.

Yeah, it's only in Tiger. Damn handy bit of software, isn't it!

There was an earlier version of Migration Assistant included within the Setup Assistant of 10.3.4 (or thereabout). I used it to transfer over from my iBook to my G5.
