Haven't they cancelled the last three tours because of low ticket sales?

Billy Idol. Well, at least they have ONE good act there.

They still have it!? Whoa!! I thought it died in 90's.

What memories!! I went to one in 1992 with RHCP in Boston.
(Unfortunately, no John Fruciante...)
I was a high school kid in summer session at Harvard, hanging out with punks
and skin heads in Harvard Square.
We all jampacked ourselves in a Volvo station wagon and go to the show,
without tickets, of course. We just climbed the fence in the back at the show.
Very easy. No problemo.

I smoked up Cheech 'n Chong style and took tons of acid. (I was never into drugs,
but it was free!!) Guess what, it was a bit too much and I just lost it.
I forgot who I was and where I was and just went berserk. Everyone else went berserk too.
Within few hours, this concert turned into a mini riot. Things getting destroyed and set on fire,
people getting beaten up, etc. Poor security guards couldn't do anything.
I just remember jumping over fire and dancing like an Indian with bunch of other people.
I can't even remember the music. I do remember the funky RHCP costume with fire torch
on head. Luckily, my friends found me and took me home. I lost my shoes, but that's ok.

...explosante fixe...

I'm showing my age but I too saw palooza in '92. Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Ministry, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Good times.

You haven't been in the city long and from what you say you've lived in the downtown area the whole time. You aren't as familiar as with the types of people that can congregate at the Taste when there's open access to big concerts like this. Since Millennium park went under construction there hasn't been anything this big that wasn't sheltered in Soldier Field. This concert could get ugly and suburban bred kids like yourself would most likely be the ones preyed upon.

Theres a whole south and west side of the city you dont hang out in and direct access to Gary from a train yards dead center in Grant Park. There totally wont be sketchy people there.

As for the best Lollapalooza: It was 94 which was the first one I was allowed to go to - Green Day, A tribe called quest, george clinton & P-funk, smashing pumpkins, and the beastie boys.

The First year was the best.

After that... eh.

What made the first one popular was Jane's Addiction was headlining. And it would be their last tour as a band fully together.

I have some live concerts of that first Lolla.

I have a live tape of Jane's very last concert during Lolla in 91 in Hawaii.

Perry did the complete half of the last show naked.

It was hard to watch. Perry isn't the most handsome guy.

But it was a great show.

i don't like these "festival" type tours....why would i want to sit through a bunch of bands i can't stand just to see someone i like play an abbreviated set. maybe it makes sense form the record company's point of view - getting some exposure for some bands...but as far as i am concerned i won't go near one of those things. i still recall seeing an interview with nick cave about his participation in a lollapalooza back in the early 90's - his response when asked why - "the record company made me..." - he is no longer associated with that company in north america.
