the imac has 10.5 and when booting up past the apple screen i get this message

so if figured i would just upgrade to snow leopard so i put the disk in and nothing happens i tried holding down C but nothing
help me !!!!!

notes i have a Microsoft keyboard if that makes any difference

Blackjet, please give us some more info:
1. what model/processor iMac
2. was the machine running OK, and then, after doing what, did you get the kernel panic?
3. Is your Keyboard a Mac version?
4. Try booting up with the SL DVD inserted, holding down the option key, and see whether you get the choice to boot from the DVD.
5. Try booting from the internal drive holding down the Shift key (safe mode)

It looks like you may have a hardware problem, so tell us all about your machine, and its history.
