config : Powermac G4 dual 2 x 1 GHZ / iBook G4 / macOS 10.4.10
I'm using an external Lacie Porsche 80 GB firewire drive to backup my files, and to hold my iTunes library. Usually, I hook things up in the morning and the evening (to synchronize & backup). The device must be about 3 or 4 years old.
On this forum, and others, I've been reading rather negative comments on the Lacie drives - anyway, here's two issues I've been having that may or may not be related to each other, and I would like to hear your thoughts :
1° sometimes, when connecting it to my G4, it takes like 10 min instead of the usual 15 sec, before a Finder window opens to reveal it contents. The drive works like mad during that period, like something is being fixed… Nevertheless, the Repair Disk Utility claims all is OK.
2° yesterday, when connecting it to my G4, the power dropped out on my G4 immediately. And I was able to repeat this a few times in a row. When I then connected it to my iBook, all went fine - but returning to the G4 afterwards, the problem seemed to be gone there too. So I wonder : is it the Lacie or the G4 ?
All help is appreciated - TIA
