Is there any chance of getting Apple products such as Software update and iTunes to use the Proxy settings in the Network preferences, when they try to connect to the Internet?

I just find it funny that Apple allows you to enter these settings, but then doesn't make use of them.

yea, thats very bad.
In fact, NO Apple application is using the settings!
All the nice apps from Apple are not working through proxies.
With 10.2 it even got worse.

I am thinking about starting an online petition regarding this issue.

It does get irritating. I wish Apple would allow proxy support on their applications, transparently if they have to (like Omniweb).

Instead of wasting your time on setting up a petition, Apple has already provided you with numerous channels to supply them with your opinion.

In iTunes, Backup and iCal you'll find a menu item in the App menu entitled "Provide (appname) feedback".

There are feedback links on just about every apple product page nowadays. Go use them, because Apple is definitely reading those channels.

speirsfr : I did, and for each release from Public Beta.

An Apple Rep told a few days ago it was the first someone told them !!!!!
Just go to Apple Support Discussion and search for proxy or firewall and you'll see what i have in mind.

I'm not sure people at Apple read Support Discussions. But some of them read Mac forums on the web. "Si tu ne peux entrer par la porte, essaye une fentre..."
