...

Size and weight (iMac with 17-inch display)
Height: 13.03 inches (33.1 cm) minimum; 20.0 inches (50.9 cm) maximum

Width: 16.7 inches (42.3 cm) minimum; 17.7 inches (44.9 cm) maximum

Depth: 10.6 inches (27.0 cm) minimum; 16.7 inches (42.3 cm) maximum

Diameter of base: 10.6 inches (27.0 cm)
Weight: 22.8 pounds (10.4 kg)(6)

The above info came from this page:

http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html

Also... You're not really talkin' about "viewable" size. Viewable size would be the 17" of actual screen use (measured diagnally). Most, if not all LCD screen manufacturers in the industry use the actual measurement of viewable screen size, versus the fudged size that they used to use for CRT's . Anyway; hope that helps .

ups ...

i meant the exact size of the display ;-) ... not measured diagonally but witdth * heigth to compare with my 21" crt.

i think it's nearly equal in width to my screen because of the 16:10 aspect ratio.

thanks anyway

Viewable = 14 3/8" W X 9" high.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?
