I have recently started running seti@home on my dual 1ghz Quicksilver. When it's running, both processors are pegged at 100% usage (I'm running 2 clients to make use of both). Of course, there's no reason to expect anything else than 100% use... if the power's there, might as well use it!
But I'm a little worried about whether or not there will be any adverse effects to my computer. I'm not talking about the decades-old "leave the computer on all the time or turn it off" debate, but rather whether or not having a constant full processor load will shorten the life of the CPUs or other components.
I know my Powerbook gets scorching hot and goes into blowdryer fan mode when I'm doing heavy usage stuff on it, and I don't think I'd feel comfortable letting it do 100% all the time, but what about a desktop machine?
Any reason to be worried about this?
Thanks!
