Hi!

I have a white ABS connected to a DSL-Modem. My PC is connected via ethernet to the ABS and my Ibook via Airport. When i run Edonkey on my PC or a similar File-Sharing-Client using the edonkey network (emule) i have sometimes problems connecting with the ibook to the airport network.
But it only happens when the PC is running edonkey and when i enable port re-direction in the airport admin utility. I have redirected the ports 4662 and 4663 to the PC. When i disable the Port redirection the problem is gone, but download rates will suffer due to my low ID in edonkey.
I am running 10.2.1 on my ibook 700 and the PC is running XP Professional. The Firmware of the white base station is the newest version.

Has anyone an idea whats wrong? Any help is really appreciated.

Thank you.

I think you described what's happening very well: you have the ports for eDonky directed to the PC, so when you try to use eDonky on your iBook, those ports aren't available and you cannot connect. The solution, if you want both computers to be able to use eDonky, is simply to not direct the ports at all.

Please note that your PC is at serious risk of receiving a virus, worm, or trojan horse when running peer-to-peer file sharing programs, and your iBook isn't too far behind. The altruistic and positive uses of P2P have been subverted by those who either use it to steal copyrighted materials (or offer those materials up to be stolen), or to plant malicious logic.

I hope you're using a VERY good antivirus package on both machines. I like Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, in both PC and Mac flavors, because they work pretty much the same on both platforms and have a proven track record of protection.

I am sorry. I think my post was misleading. When i say: I can not connect to my airport base station, i mean: i can not connect at all. No Internet Browsing, no Email etc.

I am not running edonkey on my ibook. edonkey is only running on the pc. Edonkey is not taking up all the dsl-bandwith, so at least HTML-Browsing should work on my ibook.
When i close edonkey the ibook can connect to the base station and to the internet.
When i open the edonkey application, i am able to surf the internet with my ibook. It will only happen when edonkey is running for a while.

That's interesting. It sounds like, after a while, eDonkey IS doing something. What? That's the question, and I'm stumpped. As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of such software, thus I don't have any experience messing with it or with what sorts of side effects it has.

That is right. I think it must have something to do with the traffic routed via the base station.
Maybe the base station is so "busy" that it can not accept wireless connections. I do not know. But in my opinion the base station is designed to route the traffic of up to 50 Computers. So in my opinion it shouldn't have problems dealing with just 2 Computers, even if one of them is generating a lot of traffic.
