Recently I've noticed my Travelstar drive in my Lombard is getting louder. I don't know if I'm becoming more sensitive to it or what but at times the hard drive is almost as loud as the CD drive on this thing.

On the old Lombards is there an effective way to muffle the sound of the hard drive without totally borking the system? When the drive spins down the system is silent so I know its not one of the fans kicking on. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

Oh yeah, this isn't the original 4.3GB drive, this is a 20GB drive I installed about a year and a half ago.

Try APM Tuner.

Optionally, you can use a noise-absorbing material like Akasa pax.mate foam over the drive.

Thats what I was thinking was foam or some such I could insulate the drive with. I don't think with a minimum or insultation the drive will heat up a whole lot. The head clunking I've learned to live with (APM Tuner doesn't work with Jaguar yet) but the noise of the drive spinning can be annoying, especially when it's been off for a while and it's pretty silent and then I do something and vvvvwwwwweeeeeeEEEERRRRRR the drive kicks in. Thanks for the tip of the type of insulation to use.
