I know not everybody has a crappy deal like MB/month quota, but those of you who do: What is the "standard" quota and how much do you pay for it? Additionally: do you live on an island? (Australia/NZ counts)

I pay $55 for 500MB/month (although it is unlimited when downloading within Iceland) Hence my curiosity on how other islands have it.

But what about those who *do* have a limit. How much is it? how much does it cost? and what happens if you cross the limit?

no limits. $49 a month through sbc.

I DON'T WANT someone telling me what I can and can't do with my computer (this includes everyone), and I will go as far as paying twice as much to have no limits

CAN$45/mo for ADSL.
Actual speed of 80K/sec down, not sure up,
5G up 5G down traffic; after that $7.95/, charged in increments of 100MB.
Then there's some thing they added where if you're over on the download side, they subtract part or all of the upload amount before calculating the charge.

My ADSL is NZ$49 / month (about US$25) for 500Mb. NZ$0.20 for each additional MB. A 1000Mb plan is NZ$69. And yes, on an island.

No maximum, no limit on speed, just however fast the resnet network is running. I've seen it as fast as 450k/sec, but it averages closer to 80-100k/sec when it's busy.

I could download HUGE files 24/7 all semester long and not have to worry about a thing. Isn't the university system great?

Did they give any reason and is there any ADSL/cable provider other than Optus that offers better deals (unlimited maybe?)

I pay $87AUD ($45USD) for 3 Gig of download a month and I am fuming - there is so much price fixing going on and the Government and consumer watch bodies just turn a blind eye. I wrote a couple of complaint emails and got the reply "if you don't like it go back to dialup" - a-holes

Tell me about it. I live in the Land of Price Fixing. It doesn't matter what bank you use here, what ISP, what petrol company, they *all* have incredibly similar prices and offerings. <grrr>

They believed they were giving away too much service for too low a price.

In other words, they realised they were the only cable supplier in Australia, and decided to rape their customers.

aDSL? No way. There are a few - iHug, Tig, Telstra, Pacific, etc - however, the prices are just as extortionate, or worse.

They're all using the Telstra cables, so Telstra sets the prices. Most have NO bundled bandwidth, so you pay for every meg - some have 500 MB, and that's it.

Any more than that would cost hundreds of dollars.

This is one ****ed up situation.

Simonjames, for example, pays $87 for a service with 3GB download, and speed caps of 120Kb/s up - 13K/s! ****ing awful. Not only that, but port 80 is blocked upstream-wise, and I think 21 is too.

They monitor connections, and block services. I can't use Kazaa at anything greater than 2K/s. Sustained connections on ports like 5500-5600 result in blockages for preset amounts of time.

I'm seriously tempted to take them down any way I can.

Well, I'll say one thing for those wankers. They must be retard to lock port 80 and 21 while charging per MB. If somebody is uploading, then somebody is downloading and they could be making $$ off it...

This is the friggin INTERNET!! It isn't supposed to be held ransom by numbscull ISPs. It makes me so mad.

At least there is the Universities. They tend to be a lot nicer than ISPs.

UL isn't counted to the 500 MB.

I plan on raping Optus for all they're worth until my contract runs out. I will download Linux ISO's over and over again, for the sake of using their bandwidth. I'll keep 128Kb/s audio streams open on every computer I have. Grr.

My uni charges per MB for wireless access. $1 per MB, outside the uni pages? It's awful.

Your uni charges you far wireless

The world is going to hell.

Why don't ISPs charge us by something more practical, like per GB, if they must be charging us??

This is so stupid.

No wait! Charge us by the bit. How about that? :maaaaaaaaaaAAaaaaaaaaad:
